Gellar took a two-year hiatus from acting following the birth of her daughter in 2009, and in 2011, she signed to star and work as executive producer for a new drama titled Ringer, in which she played the dual role of twin sisters, one of whom is on the run and manages to hide by assuming the wealthy life of the other. Gellar has claimed that part of her decision to return to a television series was because it allowed her to both work and raise her child. The series earned excellent reviews from critics; E! Online considered her to be “amazing” and “great”, while TV Line believed she “does a fine job” as both roles. Ringer went on to establish a big fan base, but it was discontinued after the first season. For her depiction, she garnered multiple award nominations, including one for the Teen Choice Award for Choice Television Actress – Drama.
