The Saved By The Bell reboot has been axed after two seasons on Peacock.

NBCUniversal has cancelled the remake of the iconic 1990s comedy, which started airing in 2020, with a spokesperson saying in a statement: ‘We are so proud to have been the home of the next iteration of Saved by the Bell for both new and OG fan.

‘Saved by the Bell has been a cultural mainstay for more than 30 years and the new series, led by Tracey Wigfield’s superfan enthusiasm and signature witty humor, seamlessly continued the show’s legacy, all while allowing more audiences to feel seen.

‘We’re grateful to Tracey, Franco Bario, our partners at UTV, the beloved cast, and the fans who have continued to champion one of the most iconic shows of all time.’

Most of the main cast of the show reprised their roles as it returned to Bayside High. The only ones not to return were Dustin Diamond, , as Screech, and Dennis Haskins as Mr Belding.

However, , after he died following a short battle with cancer.

Executive producer Tracey Wigfield explained to that the original cast members including Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Mario Lopez felt it was important to include the tribute.

She stated: ‘It would have been wrong to not acknowledge that in a real way and to not have our OG characters mourning this character that we’ll never get to see again.

‘That, I wanted to put on the screen, but I just wanted to make sure we were being as sensitive as possible.’

Wigfield continued: ‘There was a real guy who had people who loved him. You don’t want to make any jokes or talk about it in any way that might hurt anyone’s feelings.’
