Sir Cliff Richard regrets not taking photo with Elvis Presley as King of Rock and Roll ‘had put on a lot of weight’

has spoken about the time he missed his only opportunity to meet Elvis Presley before his untimely death.

Both were massive names in the 1950s, with the Summer Holiday singer admitting Presley was his ‘inspiration,’ and says he hugely regrets not getting a photo with his hero when he had the chance.

Sir Cliff appeared on Monday’s episode of Loose Women following at Queen Elizabeth II’s , where he told the panel he didn’t want a picture with Presley because the musician had gained weight.

‘I was promoting Devil Woman in America, and this journalist came and talked to me,’ the veteran musician explained.

Sir Cliff told the journalist Presley was an ‘inspiration’ to him, to which the journalist responded that he knew him well and asked if he would like a photograph with him.

‘And I went “Yeah!”

‘When the interview was over, [the journalist] said “Okay, when do you want to do it?” and I said “Let’s wait.”‘

The musician explained: ‘Because he had put on a lot of weight. And I said, “If I’m going to have a photograph of me with Elvis stuck on my refrigerator door, I want him to look great.”

‘I regret it now,’ he admitted. ‘I should have said “yes, let’s do it.”‘

Sir Cliff went on to say he often advises people that if they get the chance to take a picture with someone they’re a fan of, ‘Do it or you’ll regret it later!’

Presley would die in 1977 at the young age of 42, with Sir Cliff not getting another opportunity to meet his hero.

A biopic on the Suspicious Minds singer is set to be released this summer, and follows Presley’s rise to fame as he goes from a young boy in Memphis to an international star.

Starring Austin Butler as the main man, the biopic recently earned a stunning 12-minute standing ovation at Cannes film festival.
