Sir and ’s two sons will seemingly follow in their parent’s footsteps and march alongside them at celebrations in the future.

The 76-year-old superstar and his filmmaker spouse, 60, are to – who they welcomed via surrogacy in 2010 and 2013 respectively.

Revealing the boys were ‘very proud of their family’, David recently expressed his excitement at one day being able to take them along to experience the parades alongside himself and his husband.

The walked in ’s Pride celebrations over the weekend and represented the Elton John Aids Foundation at the joyous event for the first time.

While manning the till inside Sir Elton’s Soho pop-up store, the father-of-two exclusively chatted with Metro.co.uk about his aspirations for his children.

He explained: ‘I can’t wait till my sons are a bit bigger. I’d want to take them on a Pride parade because they’re very proud of their family.

‘It’s very normal to them because it’s all they’ve ever known and they love their parents and their school.

‘Everybody in their community has treated us exactly the same as anyone else and that’s all we want. That’s all anybody wants.’

Fresh from hitting the streets with the rest of the revellers on Saturday, the star went on to describe why Pride meant so much to himself and the LGBTQ+ community in general.

‘Just give everyone a fair shot. Just give everybody a level playing field with equality. Don’t discriminate, don’t divide, don’t stigmatize – so Pride’s a wonderful thing.

‘It’s amazing. I’m feeling joyful and I’m upstairs watching people come in the shop and looking at Elton’s Donald Duck suit and experiencing that wonderful way Elton – through his music and amazing cultural footprint – is able to touch every generation and speak to the way that says be your true self!’

David added that the designated day for inclusive celebrations should also be used as an opportunity to raise more awareness for the issues facing the community – something he and Sir Elton strive for through their foundation.

The Elton John Aids Foundation was established in 1992 to help fund innovative partners who are providing HIV/Aids education, prevention and care services around the world.

‘The foundation is Elton and my life’s work. We’ve been doing this for 30 years and we are deeply passionate about finishing the job, which we believe we can do by 2030 if we don’t take our foot off the accelerator.

‘Treatment is prevention, which is fantastic. What we have to continue to do is to have people understand the risk profile in undetected HIV so access to tests is really important.

‘It’s always associated with being just a gay disease and it’s not. It’s gone on to affect over 75million people globally.

‘We have to continue to break down barriers and break down rules.’

Indulging in a moment of pure reflection, David stopped to admit he understood the gravity of his situation and how much he had changed his own life since spending his ‘whole twenties in the closet’ while he ‘dated women’.

He uttered with a grin: ‘The irony is not lost on me that sitting here with you at 60… I went from a position at 21 where I had no role models and here I am – a role model for other gay men and women.

‘My mum said to me: “You’ll never find committed love in a lasting relationship and you’ll never have children”.

‘Well, be careful what you wish for!’
