The latest trailer has left fans desperate for the new series to come out, providing a closer peek at the exquisite-looking Rogue One prequel starring as the titular character Cassian Andor.
However, – including a first glimpse at ’s return as legendary resistance fighter Saw Gerrera – one particular detail in the trailer has come under some criticism.
In the first few seconds of the latest teaser, a man is shown walking while holding a gun, which some fans have deduced could be an AK-47, a real-life assault rifle first developed in the Soviet Union.
Several critics blasted the gun being shown in the series, seemingly without having any alterations made to transform it into a Star Wars-based weapon.
‘Just now watching the #Andor trailer and… wait a minute, that’s an AK-47 isn’t it?’ one person tweeted.
‘Why does this guy have an AK-47 in the Star Wars universe?’ another confused fan questioned.
One individual harshly wrote that they found the apparent inclusion of an AK-47 without any tweaks ‘lazy’ and ‘incompetent’.
However, another fan didn’t mind it one bit, stating: ‘They straight up gave this man an AK-47 and I love it #Andor.’
On Reddit, one person commented on a post showing the screengrab from the trailer: ‘It makes no sense to be here, it’s Star Wars.’
Andor, which was originally set to come out this month before the release date was delayed to September, will reunite Star Wars fans with Cassian, who made his debut in the 2016 anthology film Rogue One, alongside Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso.
The new series, the latest Star Wars spin-off to come out on Disney Plus, will ‘bring forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved’, the official synopsis reads.
‘It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero,’ it states.
The series will also see Genevieve O’Reilly return as Mon Mothma and Stellan Skarsgård make his debut as Luthen.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Disney for comment.
Andor premieres on Wednesday September 21 on Disney Plus.
