revealed that she felt dismissed as ‘thick’ due to her and accent at the start of her career.
The Steph’s Packed Lunch host, 41, – who worked as an engineer before becoming a business journalist – revealed she wasn’t taken seriously earlier in her career because she is a woman
However she expressed that the negativeattitudes towards her only made her determined to prove people wrong.
‘People have underestimated me in the past, particularly when I was a business journalist interviewing CEOs,’ she said.
She added to ‘They would automatically assume I was there to make the tea or that I’d be thick.’
The TV personality insisted her work colleagues weren’t ‘mean’ to her but she knew her working-class background gave her a different perspective on life which they couldn’t relate to.
This comes after Steph previously revealed that she’s been asked Strictly Come Dancing, but couldn’t due to the launch of her  daytime programme Steph’s Packed Lunch.
And while she would love nothing more than to get her dancing shoes on, Steph revealed that fans might have to wait a little longer for her show cameo.
‘I’d love to be a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, but it’s never been the right time to do it,’ she told magazine while covering the September issue.
‘I can’t do it now because I have the show and I don’t want to be away from my daughter, but I’m hoping it will still be going in years to come.
Steph previously refused to rule out taking part, telling Packed Lunch viewers earlier this month, ‘never say never.’
Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12pm on Channel 4.
