Kate Bush has achieved her first top 10 single in the US and it’s all thanks to 4.
Running Up That Hill has seen worldwide success following the release of season 4 volume 1 of Netflix’s sci-fi drama, with the 80s track being taken to the hearts of a whole new generation.
The song featured in the latest Stranger Things soundtrack from May 27, playing during pivotal scenes with the character Max (Sadie Sink).
English singer-songwriter Kate peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 when Running Up That Hill first came out in 1985, but the single has been loved enough for it to now break into that highly sought after top 10 chart, sitting pretty at number eight almost four decades later.
The track has also soared up the iTunes chart over the last two days, scoring an 8,700% increase in global streams over just one weekend.
And Kate isn’t just seeing success in one continent, as last Tuesday, her song had reached the top 10 in 34 countries — including Germany, Norway and New Zealand.
She also hit the number two spot in the likes of the UK, Canada and Australia – Pitbull better watch out, because there’s a new Mr Worldwide in toown.
Kate isn’t taking her surprise success for granted, though, as to thank the ‘fantastic’ Stranger Things fanbase for their support on her music, which has even reached TikTok.
‘You might’ve heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of Stranger Things has recently been released on Netflix,’ she wrote.
‘It features the song, Running Up That Hill which is being given a whole new lease of life by the young fans who love the show – I love it too! Because of this, Running Up That Hill is charting around the world and has entered the UK chart at No. 8. It’s all really exciting!’
She signed off: ‘Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song. I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July. Best wishes, Kate.’
Released as the lead single from Hounds of Love, Running Up That Hill originally peaked at number three, becoming Kate’s second highest-ever charting single in the UK (after debut number one single Wuthering Heights).
Last week, Running Up That Hill shifted 48,000 chart sales – its most impressive week of sales in the UK since digital sales tracking began in 2005.Â
As for Stranger Things, fans have been lapping up the latest episodes after waiting three years following season 3.
However, there could be trouble ahead, with producers teasing that ‘’ in the upcoming second volume, with villain Vecna desperate to capture more victims.
Stranger Things season four volume 1 can be streamed on Netflix now with volume 2 coming out on July 1.
