Warning: Spoilers for 4: Volume 1 (obviously) and potential spoilers for Volume 2
A ‘sneak peek’ trailer for Stranger Things 4: Volume 2 , and fans are already terrified that they might have spotted something awful.
Volume 1 ramped up the horror and saw the show’s main characters further away from each other than ever before, perhaps in more danger they’ve ever been.
And a glimpse at the final two episodes, set to hit Netflix on July 1, has only worsened fans’ fears that the nightmare won’t be ending any time soon.
One shot from the teaser appears to show audience favourite Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) pinned to a wall, trapped amongst villain Vecna’s many tentacles.
A later shot appears to show her buddy Steve attempting to cut her free, but fans are now anxiously waiting to find out Robin’s fate.
‘If Robin dies, I will sue’, one fan commented on social media. ‘If they hurt my girl, it’s going to be over for [Netflix],’ another dedicated viewer added.
Robin was introduced to Stranger Things in season three, working at the Scoops Ahoy ice cream parlour inside the newly-built Starcourt Mall.
She immediately became popular with viewers after befriending Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and forming a strong bond with him during the season.
Since then, she has effortlessly blended into the main group on Stranger Things, even becoming firm friends with Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) during season four.
The teaser also featured a voiceover from Vecna, who appears to tell Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) that she can’t stop him now that she has ‘freed’ him.
We also get glimpses of Jim Hopper (David Harbour) as he faces all kinds of freaky and spooky foes deep beneath the secret Russian prison that Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Murray (Brett Gelman) attempted to help him escape from.
The Duffer Brothers have audiences that ‘everybody’s life [will be] on the line’ during the ‘full-blown horror film’ finale.
Apparently absent from the trailer are Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), and the ragtag band of misfits who travelled into the Nevada desert to search for Eleven and the NINA Project during Volume 1.
It might be Will we see blowing something up in the desert – or is it Johnathan (Charlie Heaton)? – but it’s hard to be completely sure.
It perhaps shows how far Stranger Things has come that characters introduced after the show’s first season are dominating the trailer for its latest season’s final showdown.
Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 is available to stream from July 1.
