It’s official: season 5 is go! And fans have officially lost it after a new cast photo confirmed the return of a favourite character.
On Twitter, the official account for the sci-fi series posted a cast photo, featuring the likes of Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and , in preparation.
But it was one cast member in particular who caught the eyes of eager Stranger Things fans who have now to start again.
Sadie Sink, who first appeared as, is , meaning Max will be returning to the action in Hawkins before the end of the show’s finale.
Max finished season 4 in a coma having had several of her bones broken by Vecna, which ultimately resulted in her dying in Lucas’ (Caleb McLaughlin) arms.
However, after some superpower work from Eleven (Brown), Max was brought back to life, albeit in a coma, as Vecna began to wreak havoc on Hawkins, Indiana.
While it’s not the return that everyone was praying for, with no sign of Joseph Quinn reprising his role of Eddie Munsen, fans were still ecstatic to find out that Max is likely to make it out of her coma.
Commenting on Twitter, user Samuel said ‘Thank you! Sadie Sink! So we’ll have Max back! Love!’ while another, Dorothea, jokingly remarked, ‘I’m going to save you, Sadie Sink’.
Another Stranger Things devotee keeping a close eye on the new photo was user Lyd, who excitedly noticed that Sadie Sink was indeed ‘present!’
Show creators the Duffer Brothers confirmed in an interview with that Max is currently ‘brain dead, blind, and all of her bones are broken’.
Just after Christmas 2023, fans of the series were allowed when new photos of Hawkins, Indiana were posted online.
The set, which is actually built in Atlanta, Georgia, didn’t look completely finished yet in the photos released in December, but filming isn’t set to start until May.
News of Max’s ‘return’ to action in Stranger Things has come just a few months after it was to the series.
Introduced in , Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) was set up to be an important character – but when her appearance was criticised, she was shelved by creators in seasons three and four.
