Although fans may be excited about season 4 volume 2 airing today (July 1), it’s not long before we’ll have to say goodbye to some of our favourite characters, as the show’s creators have revealed when it will be coming to an end.
The next instalment of this season promises to be the most bizarre yet and is ‘out of this world’, as Eleven () learns yet more secrets about her past and the rest of the Hawkins gang try to defeat gruesome villain .
Now what fans really want to know if this: Will there be a Stranger Things season 5
Will there be a Stranger Things season 5?
With Vecna proving to be one of the most challenging entities yet for the Hawkins gang, some may be wondering if enough of them make it out of season 4 alive to return.
This season is the biggest yet by far, with over 800 pages of scripts, almost two years of filming, and a runtime nearly twice as long as any previous season. All the signs point to a finale for the show this season…or do they?
In an open letter to fans earlier this year, creators of the show the Duffer Brothers confirmed that there will be a fifth chapter but have not yet specified a release date or any details about the plot.
Could season 5 be the last series of Stranger Things?
While season 4 is not the end, it does appear that season 5 will complete the story of the heroic Hawkins gang, and mark the end of one of the most popular TV shows since Game of Thrones.
The Duffer Brothers said in their letter to fans: ‘Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons.
‘It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll soon see for yourselves – we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.’
The brothers teased ‘many more exciting stories to tell’ as well as ‘new unexpected heroes’ in this season and the next.
‘First, we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.
‘As always, we’re grateful for your patience and support,’ they concluded.
Weighing in on the decision to bring the sci-fi drama to an end, executive producer Shawn Levy said the team behind the show didn’t want to go beyond the arc that had been originally mapped out.
‘Well, we never wanted to run on fumes and we wanted to only tell as much story as the brothers saw and feel with clarity,’ he explained.
‘So it’s been clear for a while that they know exactly where we’re headed and this is the arc.
‘We wouldn’t want to stick around for one moment beyond that vision and the clarity of that voice.
‘So rather than focusing on that sad day that happens who knows when, the end of season five, I’ll just once again reaffirm what I’ve told everyone, which is it has been a long-ass wait for season four. But I swear to God, the world will realise it’s worth it.’
season 4 part 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from today (May 27).
