It might have only been a month since season 4 volume 2 left fans across the globe in tears… but work has already begun on the fifth and final season.
The most recent finale of Netflix’s sci-fi hit saw Eleven (), Max () and the rest of the gang in their most precarious position yet, as villain Vecna () unleashed terror on their hometown of Hawkins.
Season 5 will close out the show, which first premiered in 2016 to critical acclaim, with countless viewers hoping with all their might to see fan-favourite Eddie Munson () return.
In a new tweet, the writers for Stranger Things – which was created by the Duffer brothers – confirmed the final season is now officially in the works.
‘Day 1,’ the tweet read, alongside a whiteboard with a symbol for ‘Stranger Things 5’ drawn in a marker on top of it.
‘DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 !!!’ the official Twitter account for the show celebrated.
While numerous fans celebrated the news, some expressed their sadness that this is the beginning of the end.
‘And for the last time… I don’t know if i’m mentally ready to say goodbye,’ one person responded to the picture, while another remarked: ‘Oh this gonna be harsh.’
Many also put forward ideas for storylines they’d like to see unfold when the final episodes are released… and they feel extremely passionate, that’s for sure.
Amid the continued speculation that Eddie somehow survived – despite dying from his Demobat wounds in the Upside Down – several wrote their predictions, yet again, that the interdimensional rockstar will be back.
Some also prayed that Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) will survive, while there were also calls for Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) to get a happy ending.
The Stranger Things writers have all the power!
Shortly after the most recent season finale, Will Byers actor Noah Schnapp – although the show is yet to directly reference his sexuality.
‘It’s pretty clear this season that Will has feelings for Mike’, he told Variety. ‘They’ve been intentionally pulling that out over the past few seasons.’
He continued: ‘Even in season one, they hinted at that and slowly, slowly grew that storyline.’
Back in May, he previously said: ‘I feel like [the writers] never really address it or blatantly say how Will is. That’s the beauty of it, that it’s just up to the audience’s interpretation.’
Stranger Things is available to watch on Netflix.
