Nominations for the Video Music Awards () are in and unsurprisingly leads the march with a whopping eight nods.
The Crazier singer has been breaking records left, right, and centre with her album and mammoth
While she may have the and at the Eras Tour, the VMAs could further solidify the Beautiful Ghosts singer in music history.
In what we’re declaring the , Taylor has the most nominations with eight nods, followed closely by SZA with six.
However, it is the Video of the Year award that Taylor will be gunning as defending record holder with the most wins on separate occasions.
A win this year for Anti-Hero would make this her fourth win for the coveted award and second self-directed win; another record-breaking feat.
Taylor first won in 2015 for Bad Blood (featuring Kendrick Lamar) and then again in 2019 she won for You Need to Calm Down.
Last year the 33-year-old tipped into the top spot with her win for which also happens to be the only self-directed video to win, ever.
Standing in her way are ’s Unholy, ’ Flowers, ’s Attention, ’s Super Freaky Girl, ’s Vampire, and SZA’s Kill Bill.
Although none of these can take the most wins record from Taylor, it would stop her from becoming the first-ever artist to win two years in a row.
So there’s a lot on the line for Miss Swift this year.
She is also nominated for , Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing.
A staggering 35 artists are nominated for the first time this year, with Kim Petras making the shortlist for five prizes; all for her Sam Smith collaboration ‘Unholy’, in the Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Choreography categories.
In addition, newcomers Metro Boomin and Rema are up for three awards each, while Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, and Yung Miami are all in the running for two accolades.
As well as Kim, established stars Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith are all up for five prizes, while , and Diddy have the chance to take up to four trophies home with them.
The awards will take place on 12 September at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
Fans are able to vote for their favourites in 15 categories, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and new prize Best Afrobeats, by visiting until September 1.
