(really!) is rumoured for MutiVersus, while is apparently struggling to make the cut.
The roster for , the equivalent of Super Smash Bros., is already rather eclectic, featuring classic cartoon characters, superheroes, and at least one person from Game Of Thrones.
In the wake of the game’s private alpha session, there have been more claims and rumours of future additions. Some of them are safe bets (like ) while others are possible but still odd to consider (like Gizmo from Gremlins and Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion).
Now, there’s been another leak, this one courtesy of the person who to begin with, and it has perhaps the strangest suggestion yet: Ted Lasso.
If you’re unfamiliar with the name, Ted Lasso is a comedy drama series that follows the title character, an American football coach, who is hired to run an English football team.
While the show is exclusive to Apple TV+, it is produced and distributed by Warner Bros. which makes it fair game for being added to MultiVersus.
It’s hardly the sort of property that lends itself to a cartoony platform fighter but considering this is a game where Shaggy from Scooby-Doo fights like a Dragon Ball Z character, anything goes.
didn’t elaborate much further, only that Ted Lasso is very likely coming, but won’t be available at launch when it comes out of beta later this year.
Other characters that are also believed to be in the running are the Animaniacs (who will function as one character), Daffy Duck, and more Cartoon Network characters like Samurai Jack and Johnny Bravo.
The leaker has also corroborated most of the characters found in a datamine of MultiVersus’ alpha, saying that the majority of them are almost finished. The full list includes Scooby-Doo, more DC characters like the Joker, and NBA player LeBron James (no doubt because of his role in Space Jam 2).
Interestingly, they add that a couple characters are ‘on hold,’ implying that their inclusion is a bit more difficult and may not happen at all. The characters in question are Mad Max and Harry Potter.
The latter seems especially surprising considering it’s one of Warner Bros.’ biggest and most popular properties. It could simply be an approval issue though and some executives somewhere don’t want Max and Harry in the game, for fear of affecting the brand.
Multiversus releases this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
