The Chase’s Anne Hegerty discovers she’s related to royalty: ‘It was a big shock!’

The discovery was made on ITV’s new season of DNA Journey, where Chasers Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace uncovered the truth behind their bloodlines in the first episode.

Some impressive truths came to light as Anne learnt about her royal relations.

A source told the: ‘Anne was excited and fascinated to learn she has royal relations.

‘It was a big shock to her but a very nice one and she was very interested to delve into the details to find out more about it.’

The 63-year-old TV personality has even been dubbed Queen Anne by her co-stars on The Chase.

While Shaun’s discoveries were no less impressive, with his lineage being traced back eight generations to the early 1700s including an ancestor with a small fortune in Cuba,he will now have to ‘bow and curtsy’ to Anne.

He said: ‘Without spoiling anything, we call her “Queen Anne”, because obviously she’s the queen of quizzing, but we have to really bow and curtsy to her now!’

Also in the upcoming episode, Anne discovers one of her ancestors survived two German torpedo attacks during World War I, and the overcame the sinking of a ship by clinging to an upturned lifeboat for four hours.

As if that wasn’t enough, Anne even ‘handled the skull of an ancestor’, claiming ‘it was a proud moment.’

For Shaun’s journey to discover his roots, the pair travelled to Jamaica where he ‘found out about one relative from the dim and distant past who was very altruistic’, calling it a ‘poignant moment.’

He did add though that Anne was concerned that ‘her ancestors used to own [Shaun’s] ancestors of something, but, luckily that wasn’t the case.’

Also due to find their roots on ITV’s show this season are Dancing On Ice’s Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan.

Series one featured the likes of Amanda Holden, Alan Carr, Martin and Roman Kemp and even duo .

DNA Journey returns to ITV this year.
