Are you ready for a truly awe-inspiring cinematic experience?
Yes, yes, we know, it’s 2022 and one might assume we’ve come as far as we possibly can in terms of cinema technology, save from, we don’t know, being able to jump through the screen and be in the film itself.
But for those that love an IMAX experience, grab your popcorn – Cineworld’s experience at Leicester Square has turned things up to 11.
Because why stop at *just* watching a film on the big screen, when you can watch it on an IMAX with Laser screen?
To make your answer easy, we’re going to let you in on the West End’s best kept secret.
Rare in its epicness, screen in their flagship Leicester Square cinema is the only IMAX in the West End. It’s London’s premiere destination and home to the stars, recently hosting the UK premiere of Top Gun: Maverick with all the big names from the cast, including Maverick himself, Tom Cruise, in attendance.
Cineworld’s IMAX with Laser is also the biggest IMAX in the UK in terms of capacity, with 721 seats, the widest screen and largest on-screen picture for Jurassic World Dominion, getting you as up close and personal as possible to the action (and the dinosaurs) – without actually being on set.
We swear there are no dramatics here, no smoke and mirrors – we’re leaving that to the filmmakers – with movies shown on a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, curved screen that’s 87ft wide and 15.6m high (that’s the equivalent to three London buses stacked on top of one another, if you’re interested).
Nothing beats this big-screen feeling and, with jaw-dropping quality and vistas that make you feel like you’re swooping in on a story from a whole new vantage point, if you were any closer to the stars here you’d start earning royalties.
And, with films like , landing in cinemas this week, you’ll really feel like you’re fighting to save the human race from some pretty scary prehistoric predators.
The Laser screen is the place to gaze and gawp in awe at director Colin Trevorrow’s remarkable vision, as Chris Pratt and DeWanda Wise unite with franchise stalwarts Laura Dern and Sam Neill – bringing together two great eras of the Jurassic world, if we do say so ourselves – in this sequel which takes place four years after Isla Nublar was destroyed.
In fact, Cineworld’s Leicester Square IMAX hosted the premiere of the original back in 1993, so watching the conclusion of this incredible franchise on this epic screen is the only way to see how it all works out.
When it comes to the quality offered, it’s unmatched. In fact, has dual 4K laser projection, which means 100% greater brightness and five-times the contrast compared to industry norms. This matters because it gives us true blacks, making scenes with darkness feel even more lifelike.
Dinosaur roars and Pratt’s shrieks reach a level of hyper-realism here, too, with not only the most exotic colours ever seen on screen, but IMAX’s exclusive 12-Channel Sound, with four ceiling and two side speakers added to the standard rears and fronts, for greater precision and more sound than ever before.
Whether it’s zoning in on a beady raptor eye’s movements, holding your breath to listen for a pin drop, or feeling the heart-palpating force of a volcano erupting, this is what sweat-inducing quality, that makes sound not only heard, but felt, is like.
Working with today’s leading filmmakers to push this new technology to the limits, all films presented through the Laser screens are digitally re-mastered specifically for the new system, to take advantage of the increased contrast, brightness and colour it can deliver. The soundtracks will also be re-mixed, leaving no film-watching sense behind.
Think of this as the anticipated sequel to the traditional cinema screen, with sharper images, and powerful sound worthy of all the Oscars.
From cinema date nights, to group viewing parties, this next-generation addition to the art of movie-watching (which, we’ll have you know, is most certainly an art) has upped the ante on your film nights.
When you can watch any ol’ re-run with the click of a button, the cinema experience has never been more important, and this is one that grabs you by the seat and presents something never seen before on screen.
Like a punch to the senses or an ice bucket over the head, with Laser you’re transported into the biggest blockbusters and newest releases, with powerful, heart-pounding audio and stunning, powerful images on the biggest screens imaginable (remember the double-deckers), for the world’s most immersive film experience yet.
Frankly, it’s how films should be watched.
