Fans of The Full Monty were given a treat this week with the announcement a would be hitting Plus.
The film became the highest-grossing film ever made in the UK at the time and won both a Bafta and an Oscar.
Several cast members were also recognised at prestigious award ceremonies for their work, including Robert Carlyle, Tom Wilkinson and Mark Addy.
Directed by Peter Cattaneo, the 1997 film proved an instant smash-hit, and in 2022 will be celebrating 25 years since its release.
A new generation has also been introduced to the film thanks to it landing on Disney Plus, and now the streaming platform plans to bring it back to life again with a new, limited series starring the original cast.
But as The Full Monty arrives firmly back in the limelight 25 years on, viewers have some questions – like where are The Full Monty Cast now, and what exactly do we know about the new series?
Where are The Full Monty Cast now?
Robert Carlyle as Gaz
Robert Carlyle played the main character Gaz in The Full Monty, an exceptional performance that won him a Bafta for best actor in a leading role at the time.
The Scottish actor has been in plenty of high-profile films and TV shows since, starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach and snagging the lead role in terrifying zombie horror 28 Weeks Later.
Most recently in 2019, Robert teamed up with Trainspotting’s Danny Boyle yet again for a secret cameo in Yesterday, where he played John Lennon, and held a recurring role in Disney’s Once Upon A Time fantasy series.
Robert is married to make-up artist Anastasia Shirley and the pair share three children: Ava, 20, Harvey, 18 and Pearce, 16.
Mark Addy as Dave
Mark Addy was known for appearing in sitcom The Thin Blue Line before rising to prominence by playing Dave in The Big Monty, a role for which he won a Bafta.
After the massive success of Peter Cattaneo’s film, Mark went on to star in plenty more films and TV shows, including playing Fred Flintstone in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas and appearing in children’s Christmas film Jack Frost.
Aside from his Full Monty role, he is possibly best-known for playing King Robert Baratheon in Game of Thrones – a short-lived but absolutely vital role.
Mark married Kelly Biggs in 1996 and the pair have three children together: Ruby, Charlie and Oscar.
Wim Snape as Nathan
William Snape played Gaz’s son, Nathan, in The Full Monty – the entire reason Gaz started stripping, in order to pay Nate’s child support.
Of course, William – or Wim, as he goes by – wasn’t going to stay an 11-year-old forever, and in April 2015, he celebrated his 30th birthday, .
Since The Full Monty, Wim has appeared in myriad films and TV shows, though is apparently still referred to as ‘the Full Monty Lad’ by his friends.
The actor has had roles in Heartbeat, Doctors, Emmerdale and Coronation Street – and last year had a recurring role in the Tracy Beaker spin-off, The Beaker Girls.
Wim regularly updates fans on his life via social media, including gorgeous family snaps of him with wife Natasha and their baby daughter Marla.
Steve Huison as Lomper
Steve Huison played Lomper in The Full Monty, and has been keeping busy since the film’s critical acclaim opened more roles to him.
Since appearing as a security guard struggling with depression in the film, Steve has been a regular on plenty of soaps, including Casualty, The Royal Today, Emmerdale Farm and Coronation Street, where he played three different characters over more than 10 years.
He married long-term girlfriend Terrie in 2003 and the pair live a quiet and private life.
Tom Wilkinson as Gerald
Tom Wilkinson played Gerald in The Full Monty, a supporting role he won a British Academy Award for, and his career has gone from strength to strength since.
The actor has appeared in dozens of films, some of the most well-known of which include Batman Begins, Rush Hour, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Tom has won 12 awards throughout his career, including both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role in TV series John Adams, about the life of the US President.
He is married to fellow actress Diana Hardcastle and the pair share two daughters, Alice, 33, and Molly, 31.
Paul Barber as Horse
Paul Barber played Horse in the 1997 film, and since then has been a staple of British TV.
Since appearing in The Full Monty, Paul has appeared in the likes of Only Fools and Horses as recurring character Denzil.
He has also held roles in Coronation Street, Matchmakers and a long stint in Casualty, as well as playing homeless man George in Tracey Beaker spin-off The Dumping Ground.
Paul, who is now aged 71, lives in Liverpool.
Hugo Speer as Guy
Hugo Speer played Guy in The Full Monty, and has since held plenty of other notable roles.
In recent years, Hugo has held leading and recurring parts in TV shows Britannia, Marcella, Father Brown, London Kills and The Musketeers.
However fans of iconic Channel 4 teen drama Skins may best remember him for his role as the twisted therapist Dr John Foster in the fourth series of the show.
Hugo has also tried his hand at directing, with 2010 short film Mam being released to positive reviews on the film circuit – he also cast Full Monty co-star Paul Barber as one of the leading characters.
The actor is married to fellow actress, writer and director Vivienne Harvey.
Lesley Sharp as Jean
Lesley Sharp plays Dave’s wife, Jean, in The Full Monty, who eventually gives him the confidence to continue with his stripping act.
The actress went on to have a starring role in TV series Bob & Rose, and a leading role in the mini series The Diary of Anne Frank.
She also appeared as a one-off character in fan-favourite Doctor Who episode Midnight, where she was taken over by a terrifying monster.
In recent years, Lesley has had a leading role in TV series Scott & Bailey, and recurring roles in shows Three Girls, Living the Dream and Before We Die.
She is married to actor and playwright Nicholas Gleaves, and the pair share two children together.
Emily Woof as Mandy
Emily Woof played Mandy, Nate’s mother and Gaz’s ex, in The Full Monty, who was first painted as fairly antagonistic due to the film’s tackling of fathers’ rights.
Since the success of the film, Emily went on to have a successful acting career in TV, portraying Nancy in an Oliver Twist mini-series and a recurring role in series Daylight Robbery.
Emily has also enjoyed recurring roles in Coronation Street and Casualty, with the actress playing Dr Megan Harrison in the hospital soap for five years, until 2020.
She is married to fellow actor Hamish McColl and the pair share two children together.
What is known about the new Disney Plus series so far?
The new limited series will follow the original unlikely strippers as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield and society’s crumbling healthcare, education and employment sectors.
According to Disney, ‘the series will explore the brighter, sillier and more humane way forward where communal effort can still triumph over adversity’.
Cast from the original returning for the series include  as Gaz, Mark Addy as Dave, Lesley Sharp as Jean, Hugo Speer as Guy, Paul Barber as Horse, Steve Huison as Lomper, Wim Snape as Nathan and Tom Wilkinson as Gerald.
There will also be the introduction of a new cast of children and grandchildren of the returning characters.
Production has already kicked off in Sheffield and Manchester and looks likely to be released in 2023.
