They animate too! (Lego)

The Wicked movie is hoping to be one of the big hits and Lego’s new sets based on it are a surprisingly impressive tie-in.

As long as they’re not 18-rated, most successful action movies have a good chance of being turned into Lego sets nowadays. So that means not just and but everything from to .

Other films get a look in too, especially films, but Wicked is not something you necessarily would’ve expected. Which is perhaps why Lego has put in a special effort for these four sets based on the new movie.

Three of the sets use the mini-doll figures originally created for the Friends line, but the fourth one is a representation of Glinda and Elphaba that’s entirely brick-built.

Mini-dolls are a bit taller than regular minifigures and have also been used for most Disney animated sets, although they’re compatible with all other Lego.

The cheapest Wicked set is which, naturally, comes with all three mini-dolls and costs only £24.99.

The second smallest set is , which only comes with the two mini-dolls but transforms into Glinda’s trunk, complete with a brick-built key, rose, and Elphaba’s green bottle.

It’s a cleverly designed set, that will impress any Lego collector, and comes in at a £59.99 price tag.

The biggest set is , which costs £89.99 and is made up of 945 Lego pieces, with five mini-dolls: Glinda, Elphaba, The Wizard, Madame Morrible, and Fiyero.

There’s also a three-storey tower, a bicycle coffee seller, cosmetics shop, and the Wizard’s big talking head.

Welcome to Emerald City is the biggest set but arguably the most impressive is , which is £49.99 and allows you to building statues of the two main characters and all their accessories, as well as a window view of the Land of Oz.

Brick-built human characters don’t always look great at this scale but these ones are really good and you can animate them to move their arms and heads, so they can bop along to the show tune Defying Gravity.

The four sets won’t be released until October 1 (the film isn’t out till November 27) but you can pre-order them now from the , via the links above.

Each of the sets also comes with a unique QR code that allows you to access additional content from the movie on your phone.
