The Split star Fiona Button has addressed the , admitting that she was ‘frightened’ to film Rose’s heartbreaking scenes.

On Monday evening, the BBC programme , reuniting viewers with characters including Rose, the youngest sister of divorce lawyer Hannah (Nicola Walker) and Rose’s husband, James (Rudi Dharmalingam).

After the couple argued over whether or not to adopt a baby, James was Ki**ed when he was hit by a car while riding his bike, shattering Rose when she found out the news at the hospital with her family.

During an appearance on Friday’s This Morning alongside co-star Annabel Scholey, who plays Rose’s sister Nina, Fiona spoke to Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond about taking on the daunting task of portraying the heart-wrenching storyline.

The actor admitted that the plot twist was a ‘big shock’, explaining how the show’s creators ‘do this thing where they keep their cards close to their chest’ before she was told what was going to happen to James.

‘We all love as actors to get like these really meaty storylines, but they are intimidating and I was frightened about that scene in particular,’ she recalled.

However, she added that when she arrived on the day, she was ‘fine’ because she had the rest of her cast mates there alongside her.

‘On the day, it was fine. And it was day two of the shoot,’ she revealed.

When James died on The Split, while some viewers claimed that they saw it coming, there was widespread upset among the audience.

‘Oh James. The absolute best guy. Just about stopped crying,’ one person tweeted alongside a crying emoji.

‘Now why on earth would they do that to James?!?!?!’ someone else remarked.

Ahead of the release of The Split’s third season, the cast teased dramatic storylines, with Fiona about how Rose would be ‘struggling with all the fears’ about adopting a child.

‘This is the series where Rose really does some growing and grows up. She is quite different to season one and two Rose, where she was very much… not the baby, but the younger sibling, that was the main gist of it. There is a departure from that, and I really enjoyed it,’ she said.
