have cancelled their upcoming appearance at the Primavera Sound Festival in after members tested positive for Covid 19.

The US rock band were scheduled to bring the house down during Friday’s (June 3) show, however, the planners confirmed that the five-piece will no longer be performing despite ‘trying everything’ to make it happen.

A statement shared by the band said: ‘Due to an ongoing positive COVID-19 case in The Strokes, their Primavera Sound concert tomorrow night has been cancelled.

‘The band will return to the stage beginning next week in Stockholm and will perform on the second weekend of Primavera.’

Bosses claimed they have ‘done everything in our power to find a replacement but there are currently no acts touring, who don’t have exclusive shows at other festivals or in other cities.’

Festival organisers also added: ‘We know that Primavera Sound expects the unexpected but this post-pandemic context has ruined plan A, B and even C on several occasions.’

However, they said that day ticket holders for tomorrow’s event will be able to attend the concert on June 10 -where The Strokes will return to the stage – for free.

The Strokes – fronted by lead vocalist Julian Casablanca – were recently forced to cancel two shows on May 28 in Boston, which resulted in rock band Nine Inch Nails filling in for them.

In a statement shared on their Twitter page, they wrote: ‘Due to a positive Covid case in The Strokes we must regretfully cancel tomorrow night’s appearance at Boston Calling.

‘We are incredibly sorry and we will do our best to get back to Boston soon.’
