is famous for keeping us on our toes, but we’re only three episodes in and we’ve already been dealt

’s hit game show returned with a bang this week with 22 fresh faces playingin the hopes of winning a share of £120,000.

After only three outings thus far, we’ve had shock murders and banishments, and some brutal gameplay from the four chosen Traitors – Paul, Ash, and Miles.

One thing nobody saw coming, however, was a mother and son duo…

During Friday night’s episode, Traitor Paul was stunned to learn that Zack had suspicions and wrongly believed Diane to be his mother.

The 36-year-old from Manchester laughed off the ludicrous suggestion, telling Diane herself, who also thought it was amusing.

‘Zack has been going around saying we’re mother and son!’, he laughed. ‘How spooky is that?’

The Traitor and Faithful mocked how silly Zack’s theory was, given how Paul is naturally ginger yet Diane – from Ireland – dyes her brown hair to make herself a redhead.

Paul assured it ‘doesn’t offend [him] one bit’ that people think Diane is his mum because she is ‘one of the strongest women [he’s] met’, while she also said: ‘I wouldn’t mind you as my son.’

proceeded to tell cameras in private: ‘I can’t believe it was suggested that Paul is my son. I mean, he’s about three times taller than me, he’s got red hair…’

Oh, but then came the mother of all bombshells.

‘Paul just couldn’t be my son,’ she argued. ‘But Ross is.’

Yes, you read that right, and, naturally, the internet was gagged, calling for Diane and Ross to already take the win.

What followed was a true crime-esque montage of old family photos of Ross and Diane together and previously unaired clips of them conversing during private moments on the show.

Ross and Diane actually began their Traitors journey together on the train before anyone else boarded and had a conversation about their tactics.

‘Do you know what’s gonna be the hardest thing? I’m gonna have to call you Diane,’ Ross noted.

‘So, it turns out, Diane is my mum,’ video director Ross, 28, told cameras.

Detailing their gameplay, he continued: ‘I thought I was gonna be slipping up all the time, to be honest with you.

‘We’re a team, at the end of the day. We’re gonna try and divide and conquer.

‘We’ve got the competitiveness and the drive for one of us to win it because, if one of us wins it, we both win it.’

He added that their intentions are to keep their relationship secret – unlike the chaos of Tom and Alex revealing in series 1’s red breakfast.

‘I’m just trying to stay focused, but it’s tough,’ Ross admitted

Reacting to the scenes, X users could barely believe what they were watching, never anticipating such a crazy twist so early on.

‘Diane’s reveal that Ross is her son gave me such ‘it’s….. Rebekah Vardy’s Account’ energy and I’m living for it’, tweeted Tammy Armstrong.

‘BAFTA need to give Diane & Ross the Best Actor and Actress awards next year because this is a PERFORMANCE’, penned Ashley James.

‘Did anyone else’s mouth drop down for about 10 minutes after the Diane/Ross twist????’, said Rob Davies.

User SuzeHopper1 also joked: ‘I wish her name was Diana instead of Diane. So we could call her and Ross, Team Diana Ross’.

Viewers were also absolutely living for Ross subtly throwing shade at Diane and her cooking, knowing she wouldn’t be able to retaliate in front of the other players.

During a group conversation about Sunday roasts, Ross said: ‘My mum doesn’t make the best.’

In response, Diane said: ‘You’ll have to come round mine then.’

Viewers hailed the exchange as ‘incredible’, while some even challenged Diane to ‘throw Ross under the bus’ for being so cheeky.

Oh, it’s all the drama, Mick! We love it!

The Traitors continues Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays on BBC One and iPlayer.
