Something Special star Justin Fletcher’s future on the hit series has been cleared up after exit rumours.

The presenter, 54, has appeared on the popular series known for its use of the Makaton language programme for 22 years both as himself and his character Mr Tumble.

This week, however, there was speculation Justin was stepping back from the show afterTV presenter Maddie Moate shared an post celebrating her addition to the upcoming 14th series.

Now, the BBC has confirmed the beloved TV star is not going anywhere, but will simply be joined by ‘three new friends’ – Maddie, Ben Cajee and special guest George Webster.

Although this is a huge departure from the show’s usual structure (normally exclusively helmed by Justin) he is still very much part of the upcoming episodes.

He will simply be in a reduced role after the shake-up. But, don’t worry, he’s not here to stay for now.

In the new season, Mr Tumble will introduce each episode with the Hello song before sending his spotty bag to either Maddie, Ben or Justin who will then guide a group of children through the clues.

At the end of each episode, the children are transported to meet Mr Tumble(the first time in the show’s history featured children will meet Mr Tumble in person). Each episode will end with the Goodbye song.

As explained in Maddie’s post: ‘The new series remains the same happy, welcoming place (featuring lots of Mr Tumble!), but with the addition of a few friendly familiar CBeebies faces….’

: ‘I can’t even begin to share my gratitude and awe of the production team behind this show. The amount of love and care that goes into making filming the most joyous experience for the children is inspiring.

‘This show is public service broadcasting at its very best. The kids ALWAYS come first, and so they should. The programme wouldn’t exist without all our wonderful contributors and all their families.’

Ben also celebrated the news, : ‘This iconic show is entering its 14th season and the legacy and responsibility for these children and the audience isn’t lost on me.

‘I’ll always do my best and promise to look after the show and hopefully do it justice, both now and in the future.’

And Bafta winner George, who will join Justin on the show, shared the extra special meaning behind joining the team.

‘It was super fun to film with Justin and Mr. Tumble, who were my childhood heroes when I was a kid watching, because I spoke using @makaton first before I spoke with words,’ he shared.

He added that it was an ‘honour and a privilege’.

Meanwhile, CBeebies reiterated their commitment to inclusive programming, saying: ‘We believe that it’s important for children with a disability to see themselves positively represented on the channel.’

Justin has been a staple face on the children’s channel for decades in shows such as Justin’s House and Gigglebiz. He is also the voice of Shaun and Timmy in the Shaun the Sheep franchise.

Something Special will return on January 13, 2025.
