is rolling into Cardiff, Wales for in a few weeks for its first UK stadium show in 30 years and they’ve teamed up with Duolingo for a unique collaboration.
It’ll be the first time the wrestling giant has put on an event of this size here since SummerSlam 1992, and now the likes of Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns, Liv Morgan and more all set for the Principality Stadium on September 3.
To prepare for the show, language learning app Duolingo has launched a glossary of WWE words and phrases to help people arriving in Wales.
The list covers more basic words like Gornest (match), teitl (title) and tim tag (tag team), as well as more complicated phrases like Cerddoriaeth Cyflwyno (entrance music).
You can even combine some phrases with your favourite Siwperseren (superstar) to create some popular WWE chants.
For example, ‘’ becomes ‘Amdani Cena’, and Roman Reigns’ Head of the Table nickname becomes Pen Teulu.
You can even use the guide to do your best impression of Roman’s special counsel and his iconic ring introduction, so instead of ‘Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman’, try ‘Foneddigion a Boneddigesau, fy enw i yw Paul Heyman!’
Heyman will be hoping Roman’s challenger Drew McIntyre doesn’t his the Cic Claymore (Claymore Kick) and win the gold, or the ring announcer will be shouting ‘O’r newydd’ to declare a new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
The guide encourages fans to fully immerse themselves in the culture and heritage, and comes as data from Duolingo has revealed a continuous rise in its users learning the Welsh language.
In 2020, it was the fastest growing language on the platform, and over 1.5 million users now learn Welsh on the app.
Colin Watkins, Country Manager at Duolingo comments: ‘Duolingo makes learning a new language both fun and accessible, so we’re delighted to bring Welsh to new audiences ahead of this huge WWE event.
‘We hope WWE fans from across the world will embrace this guide and you’ll be hearing these fantastic words and phrases booming across the Principality Stadium on 3rd September.’
Fans can try their hand at learning the Welsh language for free on Duolingo . Tickets for WWE Clash At The Castle are available on Ticketmaster.
