Since then, Tom has continued to live a sober lifestyle, sharing a snap on his Instagram Story of him enjoying a non-alcoholic beverage.
The actor shared a picture of the neck of the bottle, which showed his drink contained 0.0% alcohol as he sipped it alongside a friend.
It comes after Tom celebrated one year of being sober in May after he originally quit drinking alcohol in January 2022 as a part of Dry January.
Celebrating the milestone, he shared that he now recognises his own ‘triggers’ when it comes to alcohol that have helped him stick to the major changes.
Speaking to about playing Danny in , Tom shared: ‘Learning about mental health and the power of it, and speaking to psychiatrists about Danny and Billy’s struggles, has been something that has been so informative to my own life.’
He also said he found it particularly helpful to learn to ‘recognise triggers’ and things that ‘stress [him] out’ such as social media.
During his podcast appearance with Shetty, Tom spoke candidly about what led to the major lifestyle change.
‘I was definitely addicted to alcohol, not shying away from that at all,’ he said.
‘I think that anyone that has a beer every day has probably got a little bit of a problem.’
He revealed he would ‘drink and drink and drink and drink’ until breaking point, and then wake up in the morning with ‘a terrible headache.’
As a result, the Billy Elliot actor found himself wondering: ‘Why am I enslaved to this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?
‘I would look back and recognise that I would go to events for work and, you know, I can’t enjoy myself until I’ve had a few beers, and I just felt so much pressure.’
