Twenty One Pilots star claims Tom Cruise ‘sacked him from Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack’

Top Gun: Maverick is finally set to be released very soon, after what feels like years of waiting.

on May 27, with reprising his role as the iconic Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, hopping back onto a plane like he’d never left.

Miles Teller, Jon Hamm and Glen Powell are also in on the action, while has been .

However, it has been claimed Twenty One Pilots were initially on the official soundtrack for the blockbuster, before the actor ‘came in and fired everyone’.

During a new interview, Tyler Joseph claimed that he was working on writing a new song when plans abruptly changed.

‘I was working with the music placement person for the new Top Gun on writing a new song for them and then I believe Tom Cruise just came in and just fired everyone,’ he said.

‘You’ve seen that new Top Gun thing, that trailer has been out for like three years. There’s been a few overhauls, and I was a part of that. So they’ve moved on…’

However, he later explained that he hadn’t actually started writing anything for the film before the switch up.

‘I saw some scenes. They brought me in to show me some scenes and stuff. I actually don’t think I started writing,’ he clarified in the chat on KROQ.

Tom has not publicly addressed the claims from Tyler.

After several delays, Top Gun will be premiering in cinemas this month with banging songs to boot.

Lady Gaga announced that she will be taking center stage on the soundtrack, unveiling her project recently.

‘When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realise the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in,’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours.

‘I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other – a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes.

‘I’m so grateful to Tom and Hans and Joe for this opportunity – and it’s been a beautiful experience working with them.’

‘Me, BloodPop, Ben Rice and everyone else who worked on it with us are so excited to share it with you. This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long. And I’m so excited to give it to you on May 3,’ she added.

An official synopsis for Top Gun: Maverick reads: ‘After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.

‘Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.’
