Streamer Abelina Sabrina Rios was banned from Twitch for reading and poking fun at a romance novel live on the platform.

, the streaming platform focused on gaming, has seen a huge rise in its ‘Just Chatting’ category for different types of streams. However, these streams have also been subject to a heavy-handed and trigger-happy moderation team who appear to be taking things a little too far this time round.

Just Chatting usually sees a lot of users chatting with streamers or taking part in something that might not fit the usual categories available. These can include news updates, podcasts, and even people live streaming on the streets.

Rios, who has taken to reading ludicrous romance novels on her streams, has been banned for the content of the book that wasn’t even read in a ‘sexual way’ according to her Twitter.

The book in question is called Ice Planet Barbarians and is about an abducted woman getting seduced by blue aliens. The is as follows:

‘Ruby Dixon loves to write sexy, dirty things. Right now she’s obsessed with dirty aliens. She’s also dabbled in dirty bikers, dirty bears, and well, just dirty things in general.’

There’s definitely some air of self-awareness, even if the reviews range from people calling it out for its content or playing along with the joke and rating it five stars. There’s no real in-between.

Rios’ streams usually involve her reading and interacting with the audience as they descend through what is presumably an almost deliberately bad experience for the sake of comedy. What’s included in the book is probably no worse than off-colour jokes about sex made by plenty of other streamers on the platform.

Sabrina has since streamed on YouTube, including reading the same novel and it has not been taken down. She also has an in-depth video discussing how smut novels have ‘taken over’ her life, which is sponsored by Babbel, an e-learning app.

This isn’t the first time Twitch has banned people for similar reasons, with the most recent being, who was banned for ‘inappropriate attire’, despite listing the stream under the correct categories.

Most notably, has had her advertising pulled from her streams due to a crackdown on (mildly) sexualised content.
