Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung star in Hulu’s The Dropout, in which they work together to expose the truth about Theranos, which comes at a severe personal cost for both of them before the company is exposed as the scam it is today.
The Dropout, based on the ABC Audio programme of the same name, follows the narrative of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos, from creation to failure. Beginning with her adolescence and ending with her exposure as a phoney, the show covers Holmes’ life in chronological order.
Shultz and Cheung play two Theranos lab staff who learn of the company’s unethical practises, such as lying that its innovative blood testing technology actually works.
While Theranos may not have delivered on its promises to make blood testing more convenient and efficient, it did bring Shultz and Cheung together, and it may have affected future enterprises’ ethical behaviour in an indirect way.
Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung: Where Are They Now?
There is only one episode left of the Hulu series The Dropout, and viewers are wondering where the characters from the show are now in real life after seeing it.
For John Carreyrou’s book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies at a Silicon Valley Startup, Erika was a crucial source. She currently works as an advisor for Betatron and is the founder of the group Ethics in Entrepreneurship, which promotes ethical behaviour in early-stage businesses.
Other persons, in addition to Cheung, are working on the non-profit. Shultz, who remains a close friend, has volunteered to join the mission as well. Cheung confirmed to KQED that Shultz advises on introductions and the firm’s overall strategy during an interview.
Shultz is named as an advisor on the website of the Ethics in Entrepreneurship organisation, which claims to have “risen from the ashes” of Theranos. He presently serves as the CEO of Flux Biosciences, an in-vitro diagnostics company.
