Oliver Marmon – the fiancé of star James ‘Jaymi’ Hensley – has tragically fallen to his death from a hotel window, aged 33.
Emergency services rushed to the 17th century Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northants., after the victim plunged from a window at 11.30pm on Sunday.
Despite the efforts of police officers and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.30am yesterday.
Hensley who reached the semi-finals of the ITV singing competition with the band Union J in 2012, had been in a relationship with hairstylist Marmon, who was known as Olly, for over 14 years.
Northamptonshire Police previously launched a murder investigation to establish the full circumstances of the death, which included a forensic postmortem examination carried out today at Leicester Royal Infirmary. A 34-year-old man from Rushden, Northants was arrested on suspicion of murder and held in custody to be quizzed by detectives.
However, the police are no longer treating the case as murder following the results of a forensic post-mortem.
The preliminary results of the forensic postmortem revealed the cause of death to be injuries sustained from a fall from height.
Following the findings of the Home Office pathologist and a review of the evidential material, the murder enquiry run by the East Midland’s Special Operations Unit’s Major Crime team has now been stood down.
Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell, who led the investigation, said: ‘This has been a complex and fast-moving investigation, and our thoughts remain with Olly’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
‘It is only right that an incident such as this is treated with the utmost seriousness, to make sure we have done all we can to understand what has happened and to get the answers those left behind need and want.
‘In Olly’s case I can confirm the evidence we have examined did not support his death as a homicide, which has now been further confirmed by the results of the preliminary forensic post-mortem report.
‘Our initial findings and decision have been explained to Olly’s family who will continued to be supported by Northamptonshire Police as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
‘A 34-year-old man arrested in connection with this incident has been released without charge and is now assisting the investigation team with the coroner’s process.’
Marmon’s mum Julie paid tribute calling her son ‘caring, loving’ and ‘talented’.
‘Words cannot express the devastation and heartbreak I feel over the loss of my beautiful youngest son Oliver, Olly to his friends,’ she said.
‘I can’t believe I am having to write this. No mother should have to do this.
‘The relationship I had with Oliver was so special, he was my best friend. We spoke every single day. He called me mummy, he used to call me his guardian angel.’
She continued: ‘Oliver was so caring, loving, quiet and always put others before himself. He was a very talented hairdresser, and it was a passion he took seriously.
‘More recently he had been working with his stepdad Steve gardening and loved it so much. He was spiritual and loved the outdoors.
‘He touched many lives and everyone he met fell in love with him. Steve referred to Oliver as his son.
‘I will miss my little Oliver so much and don’t know how I will go on without him. Such a devastating loss to all our family including his brothers Ben and James and sister Alex, as well as his Auntie Loraine, Uncle Simon and cousin Sophie.’
Marmon’s dad Leigh and stepmum Vanessa Marmon said: ‘My darling Oliver, I cannot believe that I am writing this. I would give my life to have saved yours.
‘I am struggling with every emotion you can think of, grief, anger, guilt, the list goes on.’
He continued: ‘I know that you knew how much you were loved. I was so proud of you and everything you achieved. You have been to places that I can only dream of.
‘Whatever you put your mind to, you achieved. When you were younger you were a talented sportsperson, musician and of course, hairdresser – your dream job. You won medals and awards in gymnastics and hairdressing.
‘Your life was too short, but you squeezed so much into it. You were so kind-hearted, a gentle soul who was just so beautiful inside and out.’
His brother Ben wrote: ‘Oliver Marmon you are my little ray of sunshine. You are my best friend. You radiate joy and excitement to all around you.
‘You are full of creativity and spontaneous ideas for fun. You are the light of happiness in every room. You are so kind and caring and happy to walk in anyone’s shadow as long as everyone else is smiling.
‘You are the bravest soul and no matter how much you felt different you were always so loved by everyone. Never underestimate the difference you made and the lives you touched.
‘I didn’t tell you enough, but I was immensely proud of you. Always my best friend and my little Bruva bear.’
Specially trained family liaison officers from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team are supporting Marmon’s family.
Marmon and Hensley met when they were teenagers and got engaged in 2014, three years after Hensley found fame on The X Factor. The band’s original members were JJ Hamblett, Hensley, George Shelley and Josh Cuthbert, who came fourth in the competition. Union J were signed to Sony, but disbanded in 2019.
Hensley planned to marry Marmon later this year on September 24.
In September 2023, Hensley wrote: ’14 years together and 1 year until “I do”!
‘Happy anniversary @ollymarmon! I think of many beautiful quotes when I think of our relationship so far, but one that really Sums it all up for me is from Her Late Majesty QE2, “He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years”! I love you irrevocably and so excited that In 365 days we will finally be Mr&Mr!’
In July, Marmon shared a selfie from a holiday to Norway and wrote: ‘Best week with my man and 9 weeks and counting until we say I do!’
Detective Chief Inspector Campbell previously asked for information.
‘Although an arrest has been made, we would still like to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, in particularly anyone who was driving past the hotel and may have captured the incident on dash-com footage,’ he said.
‘We would also like to hear from anyone who was walking in Sheep Street or any businesses in the local vicinity with CCTV footage, and who have yet to come forward, to please do so as a matter of urgency.
‘This is a complex and fast-moving investigation, and our team will be working around the clock to establish the full circumstances behind this man’s death.’
