The New Video Statement of Dua Zehra
After the child was placed before the court hours after her video statement became public, Judicial Magistrate Tasawar Iqbal of the Lahore Model Town Court refused the police request to transfer her to Darul Aman. The judge sent her husband, Zaheer, outside the courtroom to record her statement before announcing the verdict. Dua told the judge that she was 18 years old, that she had travelled from Karachi to Lahore on her own initiative, that she had not been kidnapped, and that she did not want to go to Darul Aman.
“I am safe, my life is not in danger,” Dua assured the judge. The judge then ordered that she be allowed to go “anywhere she wishes,” and the cops released the pair.
Video Statement by Dua Zehra In a Lahore court, her husband Zaheer Ahmed Dua had filed a complaint against her father Mehdi Ali Kazmi and a cousin named Zainul Abideen. Despite the fact that the complaint was filed in Lahore, the officers said they discovered the pair in Pakpattan. The Punjab police spokesperson further added that the Karachi officers were kept up to date on all developments in the case and that all feasible coordination was being done.
In the interim, Dua had accused Kazmi of barging into her Lahore home and attempting to kidnap her with the help of her cousin. “My father wanted to force me to take the marriage vows with my cousin Zainul Abideen,” Dua wrote in her complaint. My father and Abideen barged into my house, verbally abusing and threatening my wife and me.”
Her neighbours, she claimed, thwarted the kidnapping attempt. Dua further asserted that she married of her own free will and that she and her husband are “having a lovely life together.” Dua sought that Abideen and Kazmi be prosecuted under the criminal procedural code, claiming that she wants to stay with her husband. On the 18th of May, the magistrate’s court heard Dua’s case and summoned her with proof against her father. In addition, she filed a separate harassment complaint with a district and sessions court.
