The show’s creators may be planning a prequel series all about Carolyn Martens, the legendary spy and head of the Desk at MI6 played by the truly excellent Fiona Shaw.
Labelled ‘The Real Boss’ by Villanelle (), Carolyn was a young agent in Moscow in the 80s, and the new series may hone in on that period and her early life.
It’s therefore unlikely Villanelle and Eve Polastri () will be making an appearance, but the spirit of Killing Eve will ‘still live on’.
‘In many ways, Carolyn was a bit of a curveball choice for a prequel, but in other ways she was an obvious choice,’ an insider said of this new project.
‘The creators could have gone for Villanelle or Eve, but Carolyn provides a different take on things,’ the source told .
‘Bosses felt that Killing Eve had to come to an end but its spirit should live on in a new form, and this is the project they’re focusing their efforts on now.’
It’s been claimed the series is only in the ‘early stages of development’ and it would be a while before coming to screens.
However, for now, it’s nice for fans to have something to look forward to – us included.

With fans desperately awaiting the final two episodes of this series, there’s pressure on writers about will be wrapping up.
Teasing what we can expect, lead writer Laura Neal told Metro.co.uk: ‘I hope fans will be really excited by the ending. It’s Killing Eve so there will be blood, but I hope the fans will find it glorious and triumphant.
‘That was the kind of feeling we wanted people to come away with when we were talking about the final episode.’
As for where the multi-faceted relationship between Eve and Villanelle is headed, Laura told us after a long pause: ‘I think there’s going to be resolution and I think there’s going to be a sense of completion.’
