After six gripping seasons, fans said farewell to the gang on Sunday night – but what exactly happened in the series finale?
after episode four saw the gangster learn that he has tuberculoma in his brain stem, a growth caused by the same bacteria as tuberculosis.
While the doctor explained that the illness wasn’t infectious, he shared that the tumour will cause him to become completely dependent on his loved ones – and to make matters worse, a number of medical experts refused to operate over fears he would haemorrhage.
While viewers were devasted over its ending, we shouldn’t be too disheartened as we’ve got a as well as potential spin-offs.
But let’s refresh ourselves on what went down during the final moments of series six.
What happened at the end of season six of Peaky Blinders?
Let’s start with the good news. Tommy () doesn’t die.
In the final episode titled Lock and Key, viewers were on edge to see if protagonist Tommy would be Ki**ed by his cousin Michael Gray (Finn Cole), who made it clear from the get-go that he wanted the war veteran turned gangster dead.
This desire was reiterated , as Michael was released from prison, and he certainly had every intention of staying true to his word.
In light of his diagnosis, Tommy tied up loose ends regarding his family and business, while attempting to make sure that the remaining members of his clan would be made comfortable – previously setting his up as his successor, with other son Charles handling the ‘light’ side of the business.
However, in true Steven Knight style, all was not as it would have seemed, and fans were blown away by the unexpected twist.
Tommy came face-to-face with his cousin yet again, who was , and he thought he succeeded after witnessing a car (which Tommy was sat in) go up in flames.
But alas, crafty Tommy was one step ahead and had Johnny Dogs (Packy Lee) move the bomb to another vehicle.
Tommy later shoots Michael in the eye, killing him instantly – which fulfilled Polly Grays’s (Helen McCrory) prophecy that there will be a war between the cousins and one of them will die.
Shortly afterwards, Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) strolled in and agreed to sign his Camden trade over to Tommy in exchange for his role in securing his control of Boston.
After discovering that thanks to a supernatural intervention, the final moments saw Tommy riding off on his horse, awaiting what the future holds in store.
