is finally gracing our screens again with its third series to start tonight thanks to the pandemic.
We last saw this delightful slice of exciting yet escapist TV all the way back in April 2020, when uncle and nephew.
Now, the BBC hitchhiking adventure show is back again on Wednesday night, and this timewill be racing from one end of Canada to the other on a painfully tight budget without flying.
Previous series have followed contestants zooming from one end of South America to another, while the first saw the group dash from to Singapore.
But as we get prepared for the drama of the new series (including), where are the cast of series two now?
Shuntelle Greenidge & Michael Greenway
Project manager Shuntelle and health and safety construction consultant Michael were dating during the filming of Race Across The World series two.
Unfortunately, they were the first pair to leave the show, pulling out after the second of eight legs which saw them travel from Copán Ruinas in Honduras to Panama City, Panama.
With just 14% of their budget left after Michael misplaced his travel belt with monney, they bowed out after deciding there was not enough money left to continue.
Shuntelle appears to still be enjoying her job at the same company she worked for before the show, while Michael appears to have toyed with branching out into a presenting career after appearing on The One Show, Gogglebox and a BBC2 dating documentary.
It’s unknown if they’re still together.
Jo Gardiner & Sam Gardiner
Mother and son Jo, a physiotherapist, and Sam, a landscape gardener, made it all the way to the seventh leg of the challenge.
Tasked with travelling from Ilha Grande, an island off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state in Brazil, to Mendoza, Argentina, the family team sadly run out of funds.
They ended up quitting the race at a cattle ranch in Córdoba, Argentina.
On the reunion show, Jo confirmed that but later .
It seems that the pair have continued to enjoy travelling together as Jo shared on Twitter last January that they were heading to Mexico to try and catch some of the sights they missed during the programme.
‘Caves, underwater museum, Mayan temples and obviously food and margaritas!!’ she shared.
Dom Slater & Lizzie Slater
Siblings Dom, a teaching assistant, and Lizzie, a chalet host made it all the way to reaching the very end of Race Across The World.
They finished in third place, trying to negotiate their way from Mendoza to Ushuaia, running out of money for a taxi for the final leg, meaning they were forced to hitch-hike.
This meant they were last to arrive, two hours after the other teams.
Since the series end, and the return of travel, Lizzie has embraced a natural career move to become an influencer.
Her Instagram shows her skiing in France’s earlier this year, as well as enjoying the sun in Puglia, Italy last year and enjoying Lost Village Festival in Lincolnshire.
Dom now works for an award-winning w-commerce growth agency, where he has held the position of associate creative director since June 2022. He was previously a business development representative.
Jen Lambra-Stokes & Rob Lambra-Stokes
Perhaps the most agonising journey on Race Across The World belongs to married couple Jen and Rob, a resourcing consultant and systems engineer, respectively.
They were beaten to first place on the shoe by just 20 seconds after a dramatic foot race to the final checkpoint at the summit of Cerro Alarkén.
Jen and Rob are still as together as ever as of March 2023, and even welcomed adorable twin boys in December 2021.
They are also still delighted by their experience on the show, even going on local radio to reminisce over it ahead of ‘handing over the baton’ to the new batch of intrepid explorers.
Emon Choudhury & Jamiul Choudhury
We finally come to winners, uncle and nephew Emon and Jamiul.
The entrepreneur and architecture graduate were worthy winners of the show, giving it everything until the last moment when it actually came down to a sprint.
Since their victory, Emon has gone on to run marathons as a charity fundraiser and ambassador, even winning a regional Pride of Britain Award for his efforts in 2022
He scooped the award after running a marathon while fasting for Ramadan – raising £34,000 for an orphanage in Bangladesh that his father founded.
Emon has also become a dad to little daughter Lilliya with his wife, who was born in October 2021.
Jamiul continues to work in his chosen field as an architectural designer, and has also launched his own YouTube channel.
Race Across The World starts at 9pm on BBC One on Wednesday, March 22.
