Johnny, 58, is 36-year-old Amber for $50 million (£40 million), with a 2018 article in The Washington Post.
In the piece, Amber describes herself as a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse’ – but did not specifically name Johnny – though he .
Amber is defending the claim and countersuing for $100 million (almost £81 million).
Throughout April and May, the court case has been televised – and has seen the Hollywood exes accuse each other of abuse throughout their brief marriage, which ended in 2016.
And it’s not over yet. After a delay in proceedings, the trial continues this week and next.
But when is it set to end?
When will the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial end?
The Depp-Heard case will end on Friday, May 27.
It first began on April 11 at Circuit Court in Fairfax County, Virginia (where The Washington Post website has servers).
Proceedings were briefly paused in mid-May as Judge Penney Azcarate .
The trial resumed on May 16 and was set for May 19. However, the case has since been extended due to the amount of evidence still left to present to the jury.
Both Johnny and Amber have given testimonies and been cross-examined, with a number of witnesses for both the prosecution and the defence also coming under questioning.
Closing arguments from both sides will be presented at the end of the trial.
When could the verdict be decided?
We simply don’t know. There’s no exact date or deadline for a verdict.
Once the jury has heard all of the evidence, they will be sent to deliberate and decide their verdict.
While plenty has been discussed throughout the trial, the jury’s only job is to answer the following question: Did Amber Heard defame Johnny Depp in her 2018 Washington Post article?
Deliberations could take as little as a few hours – or it could take several days, even weeks.
