today after weeks of anticipation from fans of the Alice Oseman comics – but where was it filmed? 

The coming-of-age teen drama is of the same name.

It follows Charlie Spring, an openly gay teenage student who has a crush on his friend, Nick Nelson.

The two young , with the series navigating coming to terms with their sexuality, their high school bullies and finding each other. 

 will be a faithful adaptation of the series of graphic novels of the same name by Alice Oseman, complete with Oseman-style illustrations and animations.

The series was predominately filmed in Herne Bay, on the Kent coast, in mid-2021.

Scenes were filmed in locations such as the Bay Pier at Central Parade, the beach, and the town centre of the seaside town. 

Filming started in April 2021 and wrapped up in June 2021. 

Which school was used?

Fans will see the secondary school in Heartstopper act as the perfect base for much of the drama, as this is where the boys first meet.

Truham Grammar School, which features in the series, is, unfortunately, a fictional place.

But it will come to life in the Netflix drama, as teased in Oseman’s recent Instagram post.

Herne Bay High School in the seaside town provides the backdrop for the high school.

Heartstopper season 1 can be streamed in full on Netflix from 8am on April 22.
