, the cult crime classic, returned to for its fourth season on Friday, March 18, after a long two-year wait.
Originally airing on Channel 4 for two seasons in 2011 and 2013, the show returned with a Netflix reboot backed by singer in September 2019.
The hit show may be set around a fictitious housing estate in Hackney, but the areas they film the show are real.
Here are some of the locations used for shooting the popular series.
Where was Top Boy filmed?
Some of season 4 of Top Boy was filmed on location in East London, including in Hackney, Haggerston, Dalston and Newham.
A lot of Netflix’s Top Boy season 3 was filmed in Thanet, a town not far from Canterbury, while cast and crew members were also spotted filming the show around Cliftonville, Margate and Ramsgate.
Seasons one and two were shot mostly around East London, in areas including Millennium Mills, Walworth Academy, a Stoke Newington snooker club.
Other locations used included Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone and several locations in Elephant & Castle. Some scenes were filmed around West London too, including at The Valmont Club on Fulham Road and a Queensway bowling alley.
Where is Summerhouse in Top Boy?
Most of the action in Top Boy centres on Summerhouse Estate – with different dealers facing off to be the top boy of the area.
Summerhouse is a Hackney housing estate made-up for the show, but it’s a loose fictionalisation of the De Beauvoir estate.
How many series of Top Boy are there?
Top Boy first aired on Channel 4 in 2011, followed by a second season in 2013.
Then, in 2019, the show was rebooted by Netflix for a third season. However, some people consider the third season to be ‘season one’ as it’s the first season of the reboot.
The fourth season—or the second season of the reboot—was released on March 18, on Netflix.
Netflix has not confirmed where or not there will be a new season of Top Boy yet, but based on season four’s cliffhanger, fans are sure to be hoping that the drama will be resolved.
