Accepting the death of the creator who brought them into this world is difficult for any child. This is something that one of these daughters is going through right now. Naomi Judd’s daughters, Ashley and Wynonna, both cry during the ceremony to induct their late mother into the Music Hall of Fame, which took place just 24 hours after her death. She was 76 years old at the time of her death. Judd’s kids said in a statement Saturday that she died of “the disease of mental illness” after publicly acknowledging her struggles with “severe despair.”

The duo referenced a bible text on Sunday, May 1, 2022, and bemoaned the fact that Naomi Judd, who performed with Wnoynna as “The Judds” for years, had not survived to receive the distinction herself. “My mother adored you.” Ashley Judd addressed the assembled audience. “And I’m sorry she couldn’t hold on till today,” she said as she addressed the crowd about her mother. Your admiration and respect for her pervade her heart, and it was your love for her that kept her going in the last years, so please come watch Pop,” she said, referring to her father and Naomi’s husband, Larry Strickland.

“While this is so much about The Judds as a couple,” she said, “I want to take a moment to name my sister, a GOAT,” which stands for “Greatest Of All Time.” Wynonna Judd spoke about the family’s collection as she and Ashley Judd recited Psalm 23 as they said their goodbyes. “However my heart is broken, I will continue to sing,” Wynonna Judd said. “I didn’t prepare anything to say, as I assumed mama would be doing all the talking,” Wynonna said, “as I assumed mama would be doing all the talking.” Newspapers don’t get much right these days, but they got it right when they said you looked like Elvis.”

Ashley also paid respect to her sister Wynonna, who was honored alongside her mother as a member of “The Judds,” a country music duo. On Sunday, the Hall of Fame medallion ceremony was held at the CMA Theater in Nashville, Tennessee. Eddie Bayers, who played on several of the Judds’ songs, Pete Drake, and Ray Charles were all inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside The Judds.
