After the success of in 2020, it wasn’t long before it was confirmed another of Sally Rooney’s novels would be adapted by the BBC.

This time, it’s Conversations With Friends coming to screen, which the Irish author actually wrote before Normal People.

The series follows Dublin university students Frances (Alison Oliver) and Bobbi (Sasha Lane), who are best friends and former lovers who perform poetry together.

Their tight-knit dynamic is threatened by the bond they forge with an older married couple: and actor .

Bobbi flirts with professional writer Melissa, while Frances begins an affair with Melissa’s actor husband Nick, which leads to a lot of drama across the 12 episodes.

Who is Alison Oliver?

Alison is an actress from Cork, Ireland, and is 23-years-old.

Alison is a relative newcomer and a graduate of Dublin’s drama school Lir Academy – where Normal People star Paul Mescal also graduated. 

This will be her first on-screen role, having starred in productions such as The Merchant of Venice and The Comedy of Errors during her time at drama school, having graduated in 2020 with a BA in Acting.

She’s been confirmed as part of the cast of Jack Thorne’s upcoming BBC drama, Best Interests, alongside Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen. This will air in 2023. 

Her actor boyfriend Eanna Hardwick appeared in Normal People as Rob, a close friend of Paul’s character Connell, who takes his own life.

She plays Frances, who went to school with her best friend Bobbi.

The pair are still inseparable, despite deciding to end their relationship, and still have an undeniably strong bond.

Frances creates the poetry she performs on stage with Bobbi, which catches the attention of writer Melissa, who is keen to get to know the pair better.

But when they all intertwine, it becomes clear there’s much more at play, as Frances begins to fall for Nick.

The series will follow the story of their affair, and how it impacts the lives of both pairings.

It will also be streamed in the US via Hulu.
