Who is Sally Rooney?
Sally Rooney, 31, is an Irish fiction author and screenwriter from Castlebar in County Mayo, Ireland.
She was born in February 1991 to a father working in telecoms and a mother working in an arts centre.
Rooney went on to study English at Trinity College Dublin, similarly to the protagonists of her novel Normal People.
While studying for her Master’s degree in American Studies, she wrote Conversations With Friends – completing an impressive 100,000 words of the book in just three months.
What books has Sally Rooney written?
Rooney has published three popular novels, all to critical acclaim.
Conversations with Friends, published by Faber and Faber, is the author’s debut novel, coming out in 2017.
A year later, she followed it up with Normal People. It was first published on August 28, 2018 and adapted into a BBC TV series in 2020.
Beautiful World, Where Are You is the author’s latest novel which was published in September 2021. The first chapter sampler came out in August last year after mass anticipation for Rooney’s next story.
The Irish author has also written a variety of short stories, poems, and essays.
Conversations With Friends airs tonight on BBC Three at 10pm.
