To mark the Jubilee 2022, music and fashion photographer, Luke Nugent has photographed 26 LGBTQ+ creatives and allies from the worlds of music, fashion and arts to be released as a limited-edition digital portrait series.

The collection raises funds for The Outside Project, the UK’s first permanent centre and shelter for homeless LGBTQ+ individuals.

The likes of Bimini Bon Boulash, Munroe Bergdorf, DJ Fat Tony, Woody Cook, Lady Phyll and Parma Ham are just some of the cultural trailblazers taking part in the project.

Inspired by legendary English artist, filmmaker and gay rights activist Derek Jarman’s cult classic film Jubilee (1978), a now-iconic cinematic reaction to the spectacle of state jubilation, the This Other Eden collection celebrates the creative force of queer culture in the UK in 2022 and offers an alternative take on British identity during this moment of celebration.

As you can imagine, the images are utterly gorgeous and so expressive, with each LGBTQ+ icon donning their gladrags and striking their best pose.

Trans activist, model, and podcast host Munroe is one of the biggest stars in the project, donning figure-hugging red dress in her portrait with her purple locks styled in effortless waves.

Also featured are the likes of DJ Josh Quinton, rapper Neco London, and singer Roy INc.

Carla Ecola, the director of The Outside Project, said the organisation was ‘hugely grateful’ for the support they have been given.

They said: ‘The Outside Project exists to make space for those in the queer community impacted by homelessness and domestic abuse.’

Carla added: ‘The LGBTQ+ community needs to have secure identity responsive spaces on the city map that aren’t just connected to nightlife, and our organisation seeks to support the creation of basic housing and healthcare provisions for our community.’

More than 60 LGBTQ+ people were supported by The Outside Project’s accommodation services during winter last year, with many more relying on their community service for support.

One participant of the project is Mark Moore, who founded 80s dance act S’Express, and he wanted to be involved after experiencing homelessness himself.

‘Having been homeless when I was a teenager I am more than happy to be involved with something as important as The LGBTQ+ Outside Project,’ he said proudly.

Director and actress Jeanie Crystal also had a portrait taken, and she believes ‘thinking about methods to distribute wealth to those that need it the most should be one of society’s main priorities.’
