300 puzzles later and Wordle remains as addictive and frustrating as ever, with today’s answer costing many players their streaks.
It almost sounds unbelievable that has been going for 300 days straight, partly because it only took off in popularity towards the end of last year.
Creator Josh Wardle had only ever intended to share it with his girlfriend and only made the website public in October, which was less than 200 days ago.
Even if none of us have been playing since Wordle’s ‘true’ beginning, some have been at it longer than others, diligently attempting every puzzle that’s been available.
Some may have only just started while others have taken a more casual approach and checked in every now and then. Regardless, near enough everybody has likely tried it at least once, just to see what all the fuss is about.
Despite running for almost a year, nobody seems to be acknowledging the occasion, probably because they’re too busy being frustrated with today’s answer.
Plenty of players were left stumped and have even lost streaks to it. It’s not even an especially obscure or difficult word either, and nor does it commit the sin of .
As an extra kick in the teeth, the answer in question is SHAME, which is what many are no doubt feeling after failing to guess it.
You’d almost think, after 300 puzzles, Wordle’s popularity would have waned. Especially with the countless number of that have cropped up in its wake, vying for its audience’s attention.
Instead, it still regularly becomes a trending topic on Twitter, usually whenever it manages to really irritate players with its answers. But even with complaints of , people continue to flock to it.
How much longer it can run for is anyone’s guess, but with how many five letter words there are in the English dictionary, it’s not running out of unique answers any time soon.
