WrestleMania 40 is still over seven months away but the show has already broken a major record.
The wrestling giant is bringing its annual two night extravaganza to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on April 6 and 7, 2024 and went on sale on Friday.
In just one day, WrestleMania 40 surpassed the all time gate record, with the previous total gross record – which was set at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles – coming in at $21.6 million.
More than 90,000 tickets were sold across both nights on the first day of sales, while WWE partner On Location has already sold more fan packages for the 2024 event than all of this year’s, breaking the all-time revenue record for a single WWE event in the area.
It comes amid an exciting trend for WWE and its fans as they continue to break records, with 2023 thus far already producing highest grossing dates of all-time for premium live events such as Money In The Bank, Royal Rumble and SummerSlam.
The latter, which took place at Detroit’s Ford Field earlier this month, pulled in a record gate of $8.5 million, which is the largest for any non-WrestleMania WWE event.
As it stands, WWE is yet to announce any matches or wrestlers for the double header in Philly, and the ever changing nature of the business means it’s hard to predict how the card will shape up.
Currently, Roman Reigns is still on an historic run as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, while Seth Rollins became the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion earlier this year.
The WWE Women’s Title is around the waist of Asuka, and Rhea Ripley holds the Women’s World Title, with the likes of GUNTHER (Intercontinental) and Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio (United States) also leading the charge with their own gold.
Meanwhile, there’s scope for celebrity involvement, with Bad Bunny wrestling his first singles match for WWE at Backlash in his home of Puerto Rico earlier this year.
And Logan Paul has been taking the wrestling world by storm, most recently picking up his first win in a year when he cheated to beat Ricochet at SummerSlam.
