John Cena and LA Knight shared a huge moment of respect in something of a passing of the torch at Payback.
The 16-time-world champion found himself as the special guest referee for the megastar’s match against The Miz, while the A-lister and Cena turned back the clock before the bell with a hilarious interaction over .
Miz roasted Cena for his outfit, movie roles and more, but it was no use as the 16-time world champion still named himself as the official for his longtime rival’s match with Knight.
He added to the match with some very entertaining moments while still giving both men plenty of time to shine in their own right en route to the megastar picking up a massive win.
In tense scenes after the bell, Knight pointed out Cena’s involvement and looked more interested in fighting, but they shook hands as a show of respect.
In a blistering and highly physical main event, Seth Rollins managed to hold onto the World Heavyweight Championship despite the best efforts of Shinsuke Nakamura, who had the Great Muta watching from the front row.
It seemed like the stars had aligned for Nakamura as he targeted the Visionary’s injured back, but in the end the champ survived and will live to fight another day.
The opening match of the night saw Becky Lynch overcame Trish Stratus in a frantic Steel Cage Match to kick off the evening in some serious style.
The Man found herself battling the Hall of Famer in a brutal and thrilling exchange worthy of the hardcore stipulation, which left both women battered and bruised.
In the end, Lynch fought off the interference and beat Stratus with a huge Man-handle Slam off the top of the cage to get a huge win, with the former women’s champ blaming her ally for the loss.
Stark wasn’t going to take any more abuse at the hands of the living legend, instead laying her out with the Z-360 to a great response from the crowd.
Later, Stratus’ fellow Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio successfully defended his United States Title against Austin Theory in a fun sprint which let both men look strong.
The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest needed Dominik Mysterio, Rhea Ripley, JD McDonagh and the Money In The Bank briefcase as a weapon to beat Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles.
A definite contender for Match of the Year, this Street Fight delivered in a phenomenal way with KO in particular deserving a tonne of credit for the scary Senton Bomb he hit from the balcony taking Dom through a table.
In a fantastic surprise, Cody Rhodes used his appearance on the Grayson Waller Effect to reveal he had pulled some strings and Jey Uso is now back and part of the Monday Night Raw roster, which brought out the fan favourite to a fantastic reaction.
The penultimate match saw Rhea Ripley hold onto her Women’s World Title – with a little helping hand from Dominik Mysterio – in a highly physical match against her longtime friend turned rival Raquel Rodriguez
