SmackDown ended with a brawl as Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro got the upper hand on The Bloodline heading into Backlash.
The blue brand had its final show before Sunday night’s premium live event and the Scottish Warrior joined Randy Orton and Riddle as they clashed with Roman Reigns and The Usos in a preview for the weekend’s six-man tag match.
Backstage during the night, McIntyre mocked The Bloodline for wanting to talk rather than fight, but he insisted at WrestleMania Backlash they’ll have to get physical as the face the newly-christened RKMcBro trio.
He promised to kick Roman’s head off before the night was through.
Skipping ahead to the main event segment, Drew joined RK-Bro in the ring, with Riddle mocking Reigns by getting everyone to acknowledge certain things – his being that Randy is his best friend, and some funny lines about muscular legs.
In a nice bit of continuity, but agreed to leave it in the past, before Drew said that everybody acknowledges Roman as the ‘biggest piece of crap’ in the world.
This brought out Roman – who was flanked by Jimmy and Jey Uso – and he took a microphone from Paul Heyman but quickly tossed it aside as they marched to the ring and sparked a brawl.
In the end, RKMcBro stood tall after RKOs on The Usos and a Claymore laying out the Tribal Chief. Lovely stuff!
GUNTHER decimates Drew Gulak, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey brawl and Lacey Evans returns
In what was meant to be the first match of the night, Charlotte Flair was set for revenge against Aliyah after she cost her , but the Queen didn’t wait until the bell rang to go on the attack.
The match didn’t even get underway, with Flair beating down Aliyah and Ronda Rousey charging down to make the save, with the crowd reacting well to the ensuing brawl.
This added some much-needed fire to Sunday’s I Quit Match, with both superstars working hard to push their rivalry to the next level.
In the actual first match of the night, Shayna Baszler pinned Sasha Banks after a fun clash with one half of the , while their respective partners Natalya and Naomi were at ringside.
Natalya played into the ending here, helping the Queen of Spades secure the roll-up on their rival to surely set up a title match.
Madcap Moss joined his former friend Happy Corbin for a new edition of Happy Talk, but he sadly didn’t quite live up to the intensity he showed last week after first roasting him on the big screen, and then again in the ring as he led the crowd in chants of ‘Big Bald Wolf’.
Corbin stormed off, and both men – while very talented – will benefit from moving onto something new after WrestleMania Backlash.
Drew Gulak continued to try and find his role in WWE, and he was back in the ring this week only to face utter, sweet destruction at the hands of GUNTHER, who continues to look like an absolute monster and bona fide star.
After sending King Xavier Woods crashing through a table last week, Sheamus and Ridge Holland faced off with Woods and his New Day partner Kofi Kingston in a Tables Match.
This was a fantastic bout from all four men, while Butch finally reappeared and helped his pals to victory.
Lacey Evans made her return after the final vignette aired and got a decent reception, although her introduction from Samantha Irvin suggested a heel turn could be coming.
Finally, after trying to manipulate his way into The Bloodline, Sami Zayn found himself booked in a match against Shinsuke Nakamura weeks after he was laid out by Roman Reigns and The Usos.
The pair worked an entertaining bout, which ended with Zayn going to escape, suckering Nakamura into following him and laying him out with a Helluva kick before sliding back in the ring to take the count-out win.
WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1. Watch WrestleMania Backlash on May 8 at 1am on the WWE Network.
