superstar Sasha Banks and Naomi and now they’re looking to take on all-comers.
The hugely popular duo outlasted three top teams in Dallas, Texas to win the gold, and the state of the tag ranks means they’re even looking to the likes of The Usos and RK-Bro – the respective champs on SmackDown and Raw – as potential challengers.
Asked who they went to face next, Naomi exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘We want RK-Bro, we want The Usos!’
While it might seem like a bit of a joke – Naomi is married to Jimmy Uso, and WWE has largely shied away from inter-gender wrestling – Banks insisted they really go want to take on any men or women on the roster.
She added: ‘We do want them – for real! I feel like we are the best tag team in the world and that’s why people are too scared to be a tag team in the women’s division. We have no competition, so we’re looking for everybody.’
For the Glow and the Legit Boss, that includes women across all four for the company’s brands, from the big leagues of Raw and SmackDown to rising stars in NXT and NXT UK.
‘If there’s any women in NXT UK that wanna come out, we’ll accept any challenge. We’ll come to NXT UK, we’ll come to NXT, and the WWE – Raw, SmackDown,’ she said.
‘We’re just looking for anybody. So, it’s up to the competitors out there. We’re looking for a fight, so it’s up to y’all!’
Although WWE has largely kept men and women separate in the ring, there is some precedent with Chyna locking it up with male superstars during her prime, while she and others – including Beth Phoenix, Awesome Kong and Nia Jax – appeared in the Men’s Royal Rumble.
Raw superstar Doudrop previously gave her thoughts, and insisted while she would not only love to win the men’s version of the iconic match, in singles competition.
Late last year, while referencing both the legend’s nickname and her own past stage name, she told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s gotta be Randy. Me and him have some historic beef over who the real Viper is.’
And WWE veteran Natalya has admitted, and she thinks there’s a way to tell balanced stories in the ring.
‘There’s no gender gap,’ she also told Metro.co.uk. ‘The girls can hang with the guys, and the guys better be prepared to hang with the girls because we will whip their ass!’
There is some scope, with Dana Brooke, Tamina, Akira Tozawa, R-Truth and Reggie all involved in the 24/7 Title scene, while the latter even.
Natalya said at the time: ‘Sasha and Reginald, their match was fun! It was fun, it was outside the box.’
WrestleMania Backlash airs on May 8 at 1am live on the WWE Network. WWE returns to the UK for Clash At The Castle at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on September 3.
