Jimmy Uso cost his twin Jey a chance at immortality in the main event of SummerSlam.
Despite being recently, Jimmy made his shock return under a hood and bandana to screw Jey out of his shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
The Head of the Table put everything on the line in Detroit with both the physical gold and the title of Tribal Chief hanging in the balance for Tribal Combat, and his historic run keeps rolling on.
The Ford Field crowd weren’t as loud or raucous as others during other instalments in the Bloodline saga, with the match never really picking up the pace despite some great moments of physicality.
Jey sending Roman through a table with a Samoan Drop from the apron picked things up, as did Solo Sikoa’s interference while he and Roman teased a split of their own after the latter accidentally hit his cousin with a Spear.
Jey looked set to pick up the huge win after a Spear and Uso Splash, but a hooded figure pulled him out of the ring before revealing himself to be Jimmy and hitting a huge Superkick.
A loud chant – featuring a four letter word – was directed at Jimmy, while back in the ring Roman hit a Spear through a table to retain the gold.
This wasn’t quite on the level of other matches in the longrunning storyline, although it was certainly better than the crowd reaction came across on television.
Logan Paul cheats to win, Iyo Sky cashes in and LA Knight has his moment
In the opening match of the night, Logan Paul scored his first win since last year’s SummerSlam as he delivered something special with Ricochet.
The One And Only worked well with the high flying star, who held his own but needed the help of some brass knuckles to get the victory.
They even put their own twists on some nice tributes to Hulk Hogan and along the way, while the match showed Logan’s development as an overall wrestler.
Cody Rhodes used three Cross Rhodes in a row to slay Brock Lesnar after surviving an onslaught from the Beast Incarnate.
This was a car crash in the best way, and excelled the previous two matches these two stars have had this year, and while it was slightly confusing seeing the American Nightmare use the steel steps and not get disqualified, it’s a minor quibble when the overall match was so good.
The Slim Jim Battle Royal earned its place on the card with Omos getting things started by chucking Apollo Crews, Rick Boogs and JD McDonagh out of the ring.
There was some nice storyline development involving the likes of Austin Theory and Santos Escobar, while the final four included Bronson Reed, AJ Styles, Sheamus and eventual winner LA Knight.
This was exactly what it needed to be, with Knight getting a statement win on one of the biggest shows of the year.
Shayna Baszler choked out Ronda Rousey in an MMA Rules match that was hurt by a slightly burnt out crowd just not getting into it.
However, that shouldn’t take away from what is a massive win for the Queen of Spades, who should rise further up the ranks with this victory.
Drew McIntyre and GUNTHER went to war over the Intercontinental Champion in an incredibly physical match between two brilliant heavyweights, and the Ring General now looks set to overtake Honky Tonk Man to become the longest reigning IC Champion of all time.
Seth Rollins and Finn Balor delivered another fantastic bout that paid tribute to their previous matches while providing plenty of drama along the way.
Towards the end, Damian Priest cracked The Visionary with the Money In The Bank briefcase – unseen by the referee – but Balor’s Pedigree couldn’t score the win, before Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio distracted the ref further.
However, their Judgment Day teammate didn’t want to use Priest’s briefcase, with Rollins subsequently using the weapon instead and retaining the World Heavyweight Title.
Bianca Belair won an engaging Triple Threat with Asuka and Charlotte Flair to become WWE Women’s Champion, but her celebrations were shortlived a.
She was joined by Bayley and the returning Dakota Kai after her win, with Damage CTRL putting on a united front.
