has revealed WrestleMania 39 has already broken the event’s all time gate record without a single match being announced.
The company didn’t reveal the exact figure for the upcoming showcase, the previous record stood at $17.3 million for 2016’s WrestleMania 32 event, which was a single-night event.
This year’s event will be the third WrestleMania in front of fans to be held as a double header, while the 2020 edition was the first to take place over two nights but was done with no one in attendance due to the pandemic.
In a press release, WWE confirmed the news as they pointed to ‘unprecedented ticket sales’ in 2022.
Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Extreme Rules all became the highest-grossing gates of all time for the events, while the company also pointed to the in Cardiff, Wales.
As well as becoming the most watched international premium live event in history, it also had the largest European gate in WWE history, as well as the best-selling merchandise for a non-WrestleMania event.
WWE recently confirmed in , marking the first premium live event in England’s capital city in over two decades.
In a statement, Dan Ventrelle, EVP, Talent at WWE, said: ‘The O2 is one of the world’s premier venues and the perfect home for Money In The Bank. We are excited to bring one of our “Big 5” events to the UK and look forward to welcoming the WWE Universe to London on July 1.’
And Christian D’Acuña, Senior Programming Director at The O2, added: ‘We are honoured to be hosting the first ever Money In The Bank event taking place in the UK here at The O2.
‘We’re looking forward to welcoming back WWE fans to The O2 this summer for an unforgettable night with some of WWE’s biggest Superstars.’
WWE has promised more information on the event ‘will be announced in the coming weeks’, while the next few months of Raw, SmackDown – plus upcoming events like WrestleMania 39 in April – will shape the lineup for the event.
