A new report states that this month’s showcase will be the start of a new initiative to share more frequent updates.

Earlier today, there were rumblings that Microsoft would announce a new Xbox games showcase to open 2023. Then it unveiled an instead.

Before you start getting incensed at Microsoft’s weird priorities, it’s now claimed that they do intend on holding a showcase before the end of the month.

Not only that, but it will focus on key titles from Xbox’s studios and , and will be part of an effort by Microsoft to be more transparent about its games

Supposedly, the showcase will air via YouTube and Twitch, and is scheduled for January 25 at 12pm PT, which would make it 8pm in the UK. However, this isn’t set in stone and could change.

Titled as a Developer_Direct (yes, the underscore’s meant to be there), it’ll be the first in a series of more consistent showcases, so Microsoft can advertise its games outside of the usual big events like E3 and The Game Awards.

While some assumptions on what games will be shown can be made, the rumour specifically mentions Redfall, Minecraft Legends, and Forza Motorsport as being due to make an appearance.

The showcase is described as a smaller, intimate affair, which means Starfield will be skipping it. If this is the case, then you probably shouldn’t expect other major exclusives like Perfect Dark or Fable to show up either.

This all comes from , who was teasing earlier today that Microsoft had ‘something cooking.’ After his initial tease, he believes he’s locked down more concrete info that he can share.

The lack of news on the bigger titles may be disappointing, but Microsoft certainly needs to improve its communication with its audience.

2022 saw very few updates on major upcoming releases, as well as only a small handful of key exclusives, with Microsoft needing to rely on third party support once again, during the Christmas period.

If anything, the company seems to be more preoccupied with its attempts to finalise the Activision acquisition, which is facing pushback from UK and US regulators.
