has issued a scathing statement about the Oscars following the altercation between and at this year’s ceremony, saying the event is ‘where we are apparently assaulting people on stage now’.
During Sunday night’s Academy Awards, Rock made a joke about ’s shaved head while speaking on stage, despite the fact that she has spoken openly in the past about suffering from hair loss condition alopecia.
King Richard star Smith stormed the stage after the quip was made about his wife, in an incident that has become the main talking point from the night.
After Smith, 53, , Kravitz, 33, uploaded a couple of photos of herself from the ceremony and the after-party on Instagram, alluding to the shocking moment in her picture captions.
In the caption to accompany the first image, which showed The Batman star wearing a blush pink Saint Laurent gown, she wrote: ‘Here’s a picture of my dress at the award show where we are apparently assaulting people on stage now.’
In a second image, which showed her wearing a backless white dress by the same designer for the Vanity Fair after-party, she wrote in the caption: ‘And here is a picture of my dress at the party after the award show -where we are apparently screaming profanities and assaulting people on stage now.’
Kravitz is one of several stars who has spoken out following Smith slapping Rock, 57, with Jim Carrey, 60, that the actor was applauded and permitted to give a six-minute Oscar acceptance speech afterwards.
Speaking about the fact that the comedian declined to press charges, the Sonic star added: ‘He didn’t want the hassle. I’d have announced this morning that I was suing for Will for 200 million dollars because that video is going to be there forever, it’s going to be ubiquitous. That insult is going to last a very long time.
‘If you want to yell from the audience and disapprove or show disapproval or say something on Twitter, whatever. You do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.’
In his , Smith wrote that ‘violence in all its forms is poisonous’.
Apologising to Rock directly, he said: ‘I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.
‘I would also like to apologise to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologise to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family.’
Smith said that he ‘deeply regrets’ that his ‘behaviour has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us’, concluding his message by stating: ‘I am a work in progress.’
The Academy, which said that it ‘condemns the actions of Mr Smith’, has into the incident.
