Alex McLeish believes the signing of Luis Diaz shows how Liverpool’s recruitment has given them an edge over their rivals since arrived at the club.

Diaz, 25, was signed by the Reds in January from FC Porto and has performed well up front alongside and .

The Colombian scored in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over on Tuesday night as Klopp’s team continue their quest to win four trophies this season.

McCleish, the former Birmingham City manager, has praised Diaz for taking the Premier League in his stride and thinks other clubs should try to match Liverpool’s approach in the market.

Speaking to , he said: ‘Diaz just shows you how thorough they are with recruitment. That is a lesson for everybody.

‘Bringing Diaz into the club, the impact he’s already made, he’s hit the ground running, that kid. He’s only going to get better. That is a lesson for everybody in the art of recruitment.

Mane has been absolutely fantastic for Liverpool over the years. Salah’s become, probably, the number one in the world. Diaz has slotted in exceptionally well with these two great, experienced players.’

Diaz was close to joining rivals Tottenham before Liverpool snapped up the winger for a reported £37 million.

Since arriving at Anfield, Diaz has scored four goals in 17 games and started in Liverpool’s League Cup triumph over Chelsea in February.

His signing comes after other recent purchases – Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara – have also been commended for their strong performances this season.

Earlier this week, Reds legend Graeme Souness praised Liverpool’s success in the transfer market, describing it as ‘off the charts’.

He told Sky Sports: ‘Liverpool’s recruitment this time around – the last seven or eight years – has been off the charts.

‘They’re either having the most incredible amount of luck with signings, because no one gets them all right, or their recruitment is so good that it’s off the charts.’
