The 22-year-old has been one of the Red Devils’ top attacking targets this summer, although his asking price has been a problem for United.
Initially it was thought Ajax wanted around £68m for the Brazil international, but his asking price was raised to £84m, with the Eredivisie champions not wanting to lose any more key players this summer.
Manchester United did not want to spend that much on the Brazilian, but they may be getting desperate after opening the season with defeats to Brighton and Brentford.
Antony has certainly not ended speculation when asked about Manchester United interest and whether his former manager, Erik ten Hag, is trying to tempt him to England.
‘Will Ten Hag call me? No idea,’ Antony told . ‘He has to discuss this with my agents, I’m focused on here. What will come will come, we will see.
‘I feel good at . I give everything for this club, every minute, so I am loving this city and this club.’
Ajax enjoyed a lovely afternoon in Amsterdam on Sunday, smashing Groningen 6-1 and Antony scored a memorable second goal for the champions, while summer signing from Spurs, Steven Bergwijn, netted a hat-trick.
Manchester United appear to be in serious need of a striker this summer, especially if Cristiano Ronaldo finally gets his wish and leaves before the end of the transfer window.
The club has confirmed that they do not intend to terminate the veteran’s contract a year early, so it will take a bid from another club to get hold of the Portuguese, although no offers have come in or appear forthcoming as the stalemate continues.
