Liverpool had to bide their time to secure a crucial victory over rivals on Sunday, as ’s men deployed time-wasting tactics immediately from kick-off to frustrate their city rivals.

The Toffees were plunged into the relegation zone ahead of kick-off thanks to Burnley’s shock win against Wolves.

It meant Lampard’s side needed all three points to climb out of the bottom three and the former boss decided the best way to achieve that was to frustrate Liverpool from the first moment.

That included plenty of time-wasting and the game was stopped several times during the first half, which resulted in five minutes of stoppage time before the interval.

Jordan Pickford was particularly guilty of running down the clock and that didn’t go unnoticed at the other end of the pitch.

Ones Andy Robertson and Luis Diaz secured the points, Alisson saw fit to emulate his opposite number.

With the game entering the 90th minute, Liverpool had the three points they needed to keep speed with rivals Manchester City.

The game was beyond Everton, so Alisson found time to mock Pickford when he collected a loose ball and dramatically dropped to the turf.

The Brazil stopper clung onto the ball under him for a good few seconds before getting to his feet, with some ironic cheers from the Red faithful behind him.

Pickford is still public enemy number one with Liverpool fans for his role in Virgil van Dijk’s ACL injury last season.

The England stopper went unpunished for clattering into the Dutchman during a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park at the start of the season.

Van Dijk missed the remainder of the term.
